M – Manual System: Relies on occupants to discover a fire and operate manual call points. There are no automatic detectors, providing only basic warning.

However, please be aware that in Scotland, Fire & Rescue Services updated their response protocols in 2023 for automatic fire alarm activations in commercial/workplace premises. Under this updated policy, SFRS will no longer automatically attend every automatic fire alarm activation at offices, shops, factories, and similar non-sleeping commercial sites unless a fire or signs or fire are confirmed first.
